Study in Antalya: universities, costs and careers for international students
Antalya receives more international visitors in a year than most European countries, which makes it the obvious place in Türkiye to study tourism, hospitality or event management - the internships are real and the employers are on the doorstep. It also has a large state research university with a well-regarded medical faculty, a Mediterranean climate and a beach that is a bus ride from campus. Rents have risen sharply, though, so it is no longer the cheapest option. Here is what to weigh.

- Akdeniz University: medicine, dentistry, agriculture (greenhouse and horticultural science in particular), engineering, law and its Faculty of Tourism
- Antalya Bilim University: private and largely English-taught, with tourism and hotel management, business, civil and computer engineering, and gastronomy
- Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University: a state university along the coast, with medicine, engineering and tourism programmes and lower living costs
- Tourism, hospitality and gastronomy are the courses that make sense here specifically - anywhere else in Türkiye you would be studying them in theory
- Curriculum: four-year bachelor’s, one-to-two-year master’s, with English preparatory years on the English-medium programmes
Career prospects & ROI
The most sector-specific city in this guide - excellent if you are in hospitality, thin if you are not.
- Industry connections: the international hotel groups operating on this coast all take student interns, often paid, with accommodation and meals included
- Hospitality experience earned here transfers internationally: Gulf, European and cruise-line employers all recognise Turkish resort experience
- Agriculture is the quieter second economy - Antalya is Türkiye’s greenhouse capital, and Akdeniz’s agricultural faculty is one of the best in the country
- Antalya Teknokent and the free zone give a smaller but growing software and manufacturing base
- Work while you study: the seasonal tourism economy is the one place in Türkiye where student work is genuinely plentiful - but you still need the work permit, so use university-arranged placements rather than informal work

What it costs
Middle of the pack, and the one city here where rent has moved faster than the rest of the country.
- Tuition at Akdeniz for international students: roughly USD 400-2,000 a year, medicine higher; Antalya Bilim runs roughly USD 5,000-11,000 with scholarships available
- Living costs: budget EUR 400-650 a month. Rents rose sharply with post-2022 foreign migration, so shared flats in Konyaaltı or near the campus run EUR 200-380
- Summer is the expensive season in a resort city - many students take a room on a twelve-month contract to avoid the seasonal spike
- Transport: the Antray tram links the campus to the centre, and student cards keep monthly transport low
- Türkiye Bursları covers Akdeniz and Alanya, and KYK dormitory accommodation is available in both
Life, safety & culture
The most comfortable climate in this guide, with a genuinely international resident population.
- Language: because of tourism, English, German and Russian are all widely spoken in the city - the least language-isolating destination in Türkiye
- Safety: a tourism economy with heavy policing; Antalya is regarded as one of the safest cities in the country
- Kaleiçi, the walled old town, the beaches at Konyaaltı and Lara, and the Taurus mountains an hour inland make this the easiest place here to have a life outside your degree
- The city empties and refills with the tourist season, which changes the feel of it twice a year
- Healthcare: Akdeniz University Hospital is the main referral hospital for the region, and SGK cover applies as elsewhere
How to apply & the bureaucracy
Standard Turkish admissions, and less competitive than the big three cities.
- Bachelor’s: apply directly to each university, usually June to August, on a national certificate, SAT or the university’s YÖS exam
- Master’s: direct application for September and February intakes with transcripts, references and a statement of purpose
- English proficiency: IELTS 6.0 or equivalent for English-medium programmes at Antalya Bilim; Akdeniz’s Turkish-medium programmes need a TÖMER C1 certificate
- Tourism and hospitality programmes often require a compulsory placement semester - check whether the university arranges it, because that is the whole value of studying here
- After acceptance: student visa at the Turkish embassy, then the residence permit at the Antalya migration office within 30 days of arrival
