Germany - the budget champion

• Public universities: usually €0 tuition, world-respected engineering and science degrees
• Largest hurdle: the blocked account (~€11,900) and competitive admission
• Work: 140 full days per year allowed; strong job market after graduation

France - for the francophone advantage

• If you already speak French (Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Morocco…), your path is shorter
• Moderate tuition (~€2,900–€3,900/year) and many English-taught master’s programmes
• Campus France process is well structured in most African countries
• Strong networks of African student communities

Finland - quality of life and scholarships

• Excellent universities, everything works in English, very safe
• Tuition €6,000–€18,000, but 50–100% scholarships are common for good applicants
• Proof of funds (~€9,600/year) as simple bank statement - no blocked account
• Post-study: 2-year residence permit to find a job

Poland, Hungary, Portugal - the smart alternatives

• Lower tuition (€1,500–€7,000) and lower living costs (€500–€800/month)
• Hungary: Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship has large quotas for African countries
• Often faster admission and less competition - a smart first step into the EU
• Degrees are EU-recognised: you can do your master’s anywhere in Europe afterwards

How to decide

• Budget under €12,000 total? → Poland, Hungary or (with scholarship) Hungary/Finland
• Strong grades + patience? → Germany: tuition-free and the strongest job market
• Francophone? → France first, then compare
