Admission received - what now? The complete checklist

Immediately (within one week)

• Accept the study place officially via the university portal
• Pay the semester fee / first tuition instalment if required - your seat may expire otherwise
• Book the embassy/visa appointment - waiting times can be 4–12 weeks, this is your bottleneck
• Start the blocked account / proof of funds process the same week

Visa preparation (weeks 1–4)

• Assemble the complete visa file using our documents checklist
• Take out health insurance valid from your arrival day
• Practise the visa interview: your programme, your financing, your study plan - fluently

Housing - start before the visa arrives

• Apply for a student residence (Studentenwohnheim) immediately - waiting lists are long and they are the cheapest option (€250–€450/month)
• Plan B: private student residences and shared flats (WG) - only via reputable platforms
• Never transfer a deposit for an apartment you have not verified - landlord scams target international students

Flight and packing (after visa approval)

• Book the flight 4–8 weeks ahead; arrive 1–2 weeks before enrolment
• Hand luggage: all original documents - never in the checked suitcase
• Bring: passport+visa, admission letter, insurance proof, blocking confirmation, certificates, passport photos, some cash in euros

Your first two weeks in Europe

• Register your address at the city office (in Germany: Anmeldung - required for everything else)
• Activate the blocked account payout and open/activate your current account
• Enrol at the university and collect your student ID
• Apply for the residence permit before your entry visa expires
• Then: breathe, explore your city - you made it
